Quality mode is useful when visual consistency matters more than a particular number of kilobytes. Target-size mode is useful when a form or publishing system imposes a file-size limit. In target mode, the browser tests quality values automatically and can resize when necessary.
Can WebP get larger after compression?

WebP and transparency
WebP can preserve alpha transparency, unlike JPEG. That makes it useful for many graphics that would otherwise require PNG. Transparency itself can affect how well an image compresses, so always inspect the real result instead of assuming one percentage reduction.
